January 26th...It's hard to believe that we are finally on our way to Africa!!! The strangest part is being without cell or internet access for almost two weeks...I said to mom at the airport that it's been over two years since I turned off all my "communication tools" for anything more than a week...let's be honest, even a few days, LOL! I'm anxious to see what life in is like in Kenya and to help in whatever way I can. Its so awesome to be sitting beside my twin sis and we are connecting through Amsterdam (how I wish we had more than a few hours there!). We'll be spending the night in Nairobi after two 8 hour flights and a 3 hour layover...a bed will be very welcome. I'm going to curl up with my Kindle and the book "Same Kind of Different as Me" - thanks to Mary Sells for the recommendation; great book! ...then, maybe a snooze after all this food they keep serving us - should I mention the glass of wine?!!
January 27th...Around 8 pm, after 20 hours of travel, we have just landed in Nairobi. Tired and glad to finally arrive to our destination. We'll be heading to MCF in the morning.
It's Friday afternoon (right?! you'll notice from now on, I started losing track of dates!) - it feels so strange to be without a phone or even a watch...in many ways, it's liberating!!! We left Nairobi early afternoon and settled into the bus ride to Ndanali, about 2 hours drive. MCF has welcomed us with open arms and everyone has been so friendly. We've been shown to our rooms and trying to figure out the mosquito netting - or if it's easier to just tape the net over the window? It's definitely warmed in Ndanali than in the city and probably cooler at night...we've just unpacked and resting before dinner - the fresh air, jet lag and lack of city stimulation has made me really sleepy today and I'm sure I'll sleep like a log tonight.
